BRITAIN’S Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has acknowledged that his government is “aware of” and is “following” the allegations involving Chief Justice Ivor Archie.

Hunt made the disclosure in a letter to British human-rights campaigner Peter Tatchell earlier in April.

“We are aware of, and following, the allegations involving the Chief Justice of TT that you discuss,” Hunt, in a signed letter, dated April 4, told Tatchell.

Tatchell, who is seeking the interests of Dillian Johnson, wrote to British Prime Minister Theresa May in March, calling on her government to “seek answers” to allegations against the Chief Justice, saying the TT government “is ignoring” them by refusing to trigger the impeachment provisions of the Constitution.

Johnson also wrote to the UK Home Secretary expressing fears for his life. Tatchell also spoke about the attempt on Johnson’s life, and said the TT government had been “hesitant to trigger any proper investigation.”

In his response to Tatchell, Hunt acknowledged that the Law Association’s probe of Archie and that its report was submitted to Prime Minister Dr Rowley on December 13.

“It is right that the Prime Minister of TT now properly considers the LATT report and we are hopeful that he will respond soon.

“The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) will monitor the situation carefully and will consider appropriate follow up action if necessary,” Hunt said.

Rowley is yet to make an announcement on the LATT’s report. In a Facebook post in March, he said he has kept his silence, but was “aware that there are some people who believe that the Judiciary is available for their use and purpose.”

“I will have more to say about this in the very near future,” he said.

The post also quoted that Prime Minister as saying the “persistent” call for the Executive to get involved in the Judiciary, “is being made by people with their own agendas.”

“One of the days, I am going to tell this country what the agenda is, who is involved, what they are doing and the danger they pose to the good order of TT,” the post read.
