Maxi-taxi robbery suspect caught, then escapes

POLICE are looking for a Beetham Gardens teenager, identified as being responsible for several maxi taxi robberies along the Priority Bus Route, who escaped custody on Saturday.

His accomplice, a second teenager, also escaped but was caught a short while later and is expected to be charged for the robberies.

The teens were arrested on Saturday by Port of Spain police but around 7 pm, as they were being taken to the Besson Street Police Station in an unmarked Nissan X-Trail, they jumped from the van and escaped.

Police said the two were the main suspects in multiple maxi taxi robberies between Beetham and Curepe.
