TT quartet in action as IAAF World U-20 Champs begins
THE TT quartet of Talena Murray, Timothy Frederick, Tyrell Edwards and Rae-Anne Serville will be in action today as the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) World Under-20 Championships begins at the Ratina Stadium, Tampere, Finland.
Murray will participate in Group B of the women’s javelin qualification round, from 3.20 am (TT time).
The 18-year-old has a season’s best effort of 50.60, which she threw at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on January 20. She will need to improve tremendously on that distance, if she is to book a spot in tomorrow’s final.
Persons who throw at least 53.50 metres, or at least the 12 best performers, will move on to the final.
The men’s 100m heats, involving Frederick and Edwards, will start at 4.50 am (TT time).
The 16-year-old Frederick, with a season and personal best time of 10.41 seconds has been drawn in lane four of heat one. And Edwards, aged 19, will face the starter in lane six of the sixth and final heat.
Edwards’ fastest career time of 10.46 was registered at the 2018 National Open Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on June 23.
The first three runners in each heat, and the next six fastest finishers, will progress to tomorrow’s semi-finals.
The women’s 400m heats will take place at 9.40 am (TT time), with Serville, aged 16, featuring in lane two, of heat three.
Serville’s season and personal best time of 54.46 was clocked last month at the National Open Championships.
There are five heats in total, with the top four of each race, and the next four fastest finishers, moving on to tomorrow’s semi.
