Caribs host women's rugby fest today
The TT Rugby Football Union (TTRFU) will get the women's division started today when Caribs RFC women's team hosts three other clubs in the first of five women's rugby tournaments carded this season. The matches will be played at Caribs Pitch, Queen's Park Savannah, Port of Spain, before the lone Championship match of the weekend.
Four of the women's tournaments will be hosted by one of the participating clubs and the other will be hosted by the TTRFU. It will run in a 10-a-side format with two initial matches, then first place and third place deciders.
The first fixture today will see the hosts Caribs taking on Harvard from 2 pm. Half an hour later, the second match will feature a clash between Police and Royalians. The two match winners will meet at 3 pm in the title match, followed by a meeting between the two losing teams at 3.30 pm.
The second women's tournament is expected to be hosted by Police on July 21.
Following today's tournament, there will be one Championship Division. Caribs, off a 17-15 loss to Harvard in last weekend's Robert Farfan Memorial Trophy (also a league fixture), will meet the National Men's Under-23 team – playing in its first match this season – from 4 pm.
In the other Championship Division match last weekend, Trinidad Northern got the better of Royalians 24-18.
Tomorrow, one Senior Division match will be played. Police and Harvard will meet in Group A action, from 4.30 pm at St James Police Barracks.
The Senior Division also got under way last weekend. Rydeus trounced Caribs' second team 48-0, while Rainbow dropped UWI/Tobago combine 62-29. Exiles won the other match 44-22.
