Huawei signs MOU with QPCC to enhance fan experience

QUEEN’S Park Cricket Club (QPCC), already known as one of the premier clubs in the region, signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Huawei to make the fan experience at the Queen’s Park Oval more luxurious.

On Wednesday, the MOU was signed at the Queen’s Park Oval. President of QPCC Dr Nigel Camacho, president of Huawei Central America and Caribbean Clark Cheng, CEO of Huawei Trinidad and Tobago (TT) Jeff Jin and enterprise director of Huawei TT Tudor John attended.

“Today (Wednesday) is the beginning of what we hope to be a long and fruitful relationship between Huawei Technologies Ltd and the Queen’s Park Cricket Club,” Dr Camacho said.

“QPCC recognises the value of this partnership as the club prepares to move forward in the world of digitisation. Huawei Technologies Ltd is a global leader in terms of technology and telecoms.”

Like all sporting clubs and organisations, QPCC have tried to adapt during the covid19 pandemic.

Camacho said, “Me and the management committee have been forced to think of innovative, alternative ways to generate revenue at the club and this we are confident is a step in the right direction.”

Sport has been utilising technology, John said.

“Digital transformation is sweeping across all industries and changing the way we live in particular innovation in the sport industry.”

Speaking about how fans will benefit at the Oval, John said, “Technology such as the new WiFi 6, the new generation of WiFi can increase the speed, reliability and security of the venue’s connectivity enhancing a cricket fan’s experience.”

The Queen’s Park Oval will be the first sporting venue in Trinidad with WiFi 6.

WiFi 6 is available at venues in the US including at American Football facilities.

Cheng was elated to team up with QPCC. “Huawei TT is pleased to partner with the Queen’s Park Cricket Club – the largest and one of the most historic sporting venues in the Caribbean.”
