Couple in court arising out of Pleasantville raid
A 34-YEAR-OLD man from Pleasantville, San Fernando, appeared before a magistrate yesterday afternoon charged with possession of a gun, ammunition and marijuana stemming from a raid headed by police commissioner Gary Griffith on Tuesday.
Three other people have been charged with similar offences and are to be taken to court today.
Briant Adams, of Oleander Drive, and Reanna Pooran appeared before magistrate Natalie Diop. She read to him a charge that at No 10 Oleander Drive, he was in possession of a Glock pistol, 18 rounds of ammunition and 7.4 kilos of marijuana. He was not called upon to plead.
Pooran, who stood alongside Adams in the dock, was charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
The charges stemmed from searches at several homes in Pleasantville by a team of police under Griffith’s supervision.
Attorney Ainsley Lucky pleaded for Pooran’s bail but the prosecutor, Sgt Ishmael, objected because of the serious nature and prevalence of the offences.
Diop, however, expressed the view that such factors were not sufficient to deny bail, especially to accused people who have had no previous criminal record.
Adams, who said he is an employee of the South-West Regional Health Authority, was granted $200,000 bail and Pooran $75,000. They are to return to court on January 17.
