Reggae singer Million Voice dies

LOCAL Reggae artiste Kevin “Million Voice” Young died yesterday at about 8 am at the Sangre Grande Hospital. He was 41.
This was confirmed by his manager Tyrone Tsoi-A-Sue, who said Million Voice died from kidney failure, although he had battled cancer for a while.

He was the brother of another well-known local reggae singer, Brendon “I-Sasha” Young.
Million Voice went into the hospital ten days ago, Tsoi-A-Sue told Newsday. A fund-raiser was held last year to help the singer with his medical expenses.

Tsoi-A-Sue said, “Million was one of the phenomenal reggae artistes of TT.”
He was known for hits such as One Family, his biggest hit, and I Know Jah Done with I-Sasha.
His brother I-Sasha was in Guyana doing radio interviews, at the time of writing. Tsoi-A-Sue said he was trying to get in contact with the singer.

“There are a lot of artistes calling, and everybody wants to do something in regard to him, because he was one of the bonafide reggae artistes who everybody would look up to. Because as far as strength goes, all the artistes would lean on Million because he was the strongest out of all of us in terms of emotion and loss,” he said.

Describing how Million Voice addressed his illness, Tsoi-a-Sue said, “He would always be the one that would stand firm for any situation. The brother was full of strength. Even in his sickness, he showed tremendous strength...He was ill and acting like ‘Don’t worry. I would get through. If God ready for me, he ready for me. That is not a problem.’”

Tsoi-A-Sue said Million Voice was a “very strong believer” in God and Jesus Christ.
While ill, Tsoi-A-Sue said, Million Voice had begun to do a lot of gospel reggae. “He had been baptised about three years ago and gave his life to Christ, and he was walking the straight and narrow,” he said.

He leaves his mother, father, three brothers, wife, daughter and son to mourn. No funeral arrangements have been made as yet, his manager told Newsday.
