Autopsy: Watchman, 55, was beaten, strangled
THE autopsy of Shashi Boodram, 55, revealed on August 12 that he had been beaten before he was strangled and smothered to death.
The exact cause of death was listed as asphyxia, ligature strangulation and smothering and blunt force injuries to the body.
Police said around 6.45 am on August 7, a supervisor at Central Concrete Products Ltd called and said he had found Boodram lying motionless with a towel wrapped around his face and neck, 25 minutes earlier.
He was wearing multi-coloured chequered boxer shorts and was bareback. A red and white towel was wrapped around his face and neck.
Police said Boodram had been living at the compound at Lot 9 C, Plaisance Park Industrial Estate, St Margarets, for the last six years as a live-in watchman. He was last seen alive around 3.45 am on August 6.
His eldest niece, Seema Mangroo, spoke with the media at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, on August 12.
She said Boodram was a "real nice person" and not a troublemaker.
"He drink, he smoke, but he never harass nobody."
Mangroo said the crime situation is "way out of hand."
"My uncle did not deserve to die like that, no matter what type of person he is."
Boodram was not married and did not have children.
Mangroo said her family and Boodram spoke regularly.
"Just Sunday (August 4) he visited his cousins and carried plums for them and went back to work."
She said he was well-respected and well-treated at his job.
