Shootings in Port of Spain and Valencia on March 13 have left one man dead and another in hospital.

In the first incident, a Barataria man drove himself to hospital after he was shot while driving through Belmont. The 36-year-old man was his silver Nissan B15 along the St Barbs Road when he heard gunshots.

He felt a burning sensation on the right side of his body and drove to the Port of Spain General Hospital. Hospital attendants helped him out of the car and into the accident and emergency ward.

Police wrecked his car to a nearby police station for forensic analysis. PC Hoyte of Besson Street Police Station is investigating.

At 11.15 pm, Deon Brusco, 30, was at home with his wife at Mountain View Drive, Benny Road, Valencia, when masked gunmen dressed in dark-coloured clothes entered the house and announced a robbery.

They tied up the woman with tie straps and beat Brusco multiple times. They then shot him in his left leg and before running out the house and escaping.

Brusco’s wife was able to escape her restraints and get help.

Police arrived minutes later and took Brusco to the hospital, but he died from his injuries almost two hours later.

Police found a nine millimetre spent shell and projectile at the house.

The Eastern Division Task Force and Special Operations Unit launched a manhunt for the gunmen but were unable to find them.
