Woman robbed at 2am on Wrightson Road talking on phone

A 31-year-old woman from Carenage walking on Wrightson Road, Port of Spain, had her phone snatched by a man while talking on it. Police later held a suspect.

Around 2.15 am on Sunday morning, the victim was standing near the Radisson Hotel when four men approached her.

One snatched her iPhone 13 Pro Max, valued at $5,000, before they ran off in the direction of London Street.

The victim was picked up by a driver and other passengers shortly after. While they were driving, she spotted the man who stole her phone on South Quay, near the Carenage maxi hub.

She described him as of African descent, with plaited hair, a slim build, five foot two inches tall, wearing a white T-shirt, blue three-quarter jeans pants and slippers.

She got out of the car and approached the suspect. The two got into a fight, in which her right hand was injured.

Officers from the Central Police Station on patrol saw the disturbance, intervened and arrested the suspect.

Investigations are ongoing.

Later on Sunday morning, around 10.30 am, a 59-year-old woman from St Madeleine was walking on Independence Square when a man snatched her gold chain near KFC.

She described her attacker as of African descent, light brown in complexion, five foot ten inches tall, dressed in a yellow and black striped T-shirt, khaki-coloured three-quarter pants, and with a slim build and plaited hair.

The man walked up to the victim, pushed her against the KFC's glass window and pulled her two gold chains off her neck, causing bruises and cuts.

The suspect put the chains, valued at $4500, in his pocket and walked in the direction of Church's Chicken.

In Sangre Grande, a 56-year-old wholesale trader was robbed around 7 am on Sunday outside his business while working.

His back was turned to the road when he felt a push. He turned around and saw three men dressed in dark clothing wearing masks and holding guns.

The men announced a robbery and made the victim take them to his home/warehouse. They stole cigarettes totalling $15,000 before running off into nearby bushes.

Sangre Grande police are investigating.
