A Toco man was shot dead while at home early Christmas morning. Police said that Kelvin Ramsamooj was asleep at his home on Monsegue Trace, Toco, at 2.40 am when a relative—who was also in the house—reported hearing gunshots.

Police said officers of the Toco Police Station found Ramsamooj lying on the floor in a bedroom of the house, bleeding from two wounds to the back. He was taken to the Toco Health Centre but died at 3.22 am while being treated.

Investigators said Ramsamooj tried to run to the living room after the gunshots were heard but fell and was seen bleeding from wounds to the back.

Also on Christmas Day, in Cunupia, police were called out to Jonathan Trace, Cunupia, just after 2 pm, for a report of a shooting.

Investigators said when officers of the Cunupia CID arrived at the location, they were told Prince Campbell was standing in their yard when he was shot by a man of African descent, wearing a blue-coloured hoodie and face mask.

As Campbell slumped to the ground, the gunman escaped on foot. Campbell’s relatives took him to the Chaguanas District Health Facility where he died while being treated. Crime scene investigators processed the scene and Insp Ousman and W/Cpl Dyer-Baptiste are continuing investigations.

On December 13, police said a 29-year-old Venezuelan man was found with gunshots to his body in Enterprise, Chaguanas.

He was identified as Hector Jesus Marin Valderrey, a labourer from Warrenville, Cunupia. Police said around 6.47 pm on December 23 they received a report of a shooting in Crown Trace. They arrived eight minutes later and found Valderrey lying in a pool of blood, groaning in pain.

They took him to the hospital at 7.05 pm, but he later died while being treated at 8.48 pm.

Police did not find anything of evidential value where they found Valderrey.

Investigations are ongoing.
