US healthcare provider Carenet expands to Trinidad and Tobago
SOME 200 health advisors will offer their services under the Port of Spain branch of Carenet Health – a prominent US healthcare business support company – when it opens later this year.
Carenet Health, announcing the impending launch in a media release, said it selected Trinidad and Tobago because of the "high-quality talent pool, English fluency, favourable time zone alignment with the US, strong sales and engagement outcomes."
The company said the move represents another step in its global mission to support client partners and deliver the economic benefits of right-shoring.
Right-shoring refers to the strategic placement of business operations to places offering the best combination of cost and efficiency.
"Carenet defines right-shoring as the strategic discipline of selecting the best-fit geographical and financial model needed to meet the ever-changing requirements for the business of healthcare," the company said.
InvesTT (now part of the TT Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) facilitated the expansion over ten months.
Carenet Health CEO John Erwin expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, saying, "We look forward to welcoming our new team in TT.
"Right-shoring is a crucial component of our strategy to help clients succeed in a challenging market. Our new facility will enable us to achieve exceptional performance at half the cost."
Sekou Alleyne, former president of InvesTT, highlighted the significance of Carenet’s decision.
"Being selected by Carenet as part of their right-shoring strategy is a major milestone and demonstrates TT’s competitiveness in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector," Alleyne said. "With this new investment, TT is now a preferred location for nine global BPO companies, employing (nearly) 3,000 people."
The company noted Port of Spain’s recent listing as the fifth top-value destination for BPO in Latin America and the Caribbean by the Nearshore Value Index in 2024.
