The 31-year-old son of Marlah Boodram was formally charged with her murder on Thursday and is expected to appear virtually before a Princes Town magistrate on Friday.

Police said Adrian Koat was charged following advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Koat allegedly beat his 56-year-old mother to death on August 12 at their Cleghorn Village, Princes Town, home after an argument over the home's internet connection. Police said they were told Koat was an outpatient of the psychiatric ward of the San Fernando General Hospital.

Boodram's husband, Dennis, told Newsday he witnessed the attack but was too afraid to intervene as he was also threatened.

β€œHe kicked she up like a football. I could not do anything because he was going to kill me, too. He is big and strong, and she was small.

"I begged him to leave her, but he did not."

Boodram's battered and bruised body was found in an empty room next to her bedroom on the first floor of the two-storey house around midday.

Dennis said the argument began on August 11 when Boodram confronted Koat about unplugging the internet modem, preventing her from calling her other son.

Meanwhile, Newsday was told charges were expected to be laid against the suspect in the murder of Keifer Wilson, 27, of Gasparillo, once the autopsy was completed.

Wilson was attacked near the Gandhi Village roundabout Debe while on the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway by a man who relatives said was obsessed with her on Tuesday. The suspect allegedly crashed into the vehicle she was travelling in with a family friend, hit her with a wheel spanner in a subsequent fight and then killed her by hitting her with his vehicle. The man remains in police custody.
