Central Division cops arrest 13, seize monkey

CENTRAL Division police arrested 13 people, including ten Venezuelans, in an anti-crime exercise on August 8.

A media statement on August 9 said officers searched several drug hotspots in the Couva and Freeport districts between 3 pm and 8 pm.

While searching an abandoned building at Soobran Street, Dow Village in California, they found the Venezuelans, who they said were illegal immigrants.

The police also found and seized eight grammes of cocaine as well as a capuchin monkey, which they handed over to game wardens from the Forestry Division of the Agriculture Ministry.

The police also went to Greig Street, Balmain Village in Couva, where they searched a 46-year-old man from Moruga.

They found 44 grammes of cocaine on him. The police held two other men from Couva for having cocaine.

At Junon Street Extension in California, police searched overgrown areas and abandoned buildings, where they found a revolver with two rounds of .38 ammunition.

Snr Supt Simon, Supt Glodon, ASP Ablacksingh and Insp Sylvan co-ordinated the exercise.

It included members of the Task Force (Area South) led by Sgt Blackman and acting Cpl Sarran, the Caroni K9 Unit, the Immigration Department and the Forestry Division.
