Trincity Nationals, Hawks win Emancipation football tournament

TRINCITY Nationals and Trendsetter Hawks won their respective categories when the Sweat Equity Crew held its third Emancipation Football Nation seven-a-side tournament at Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya on July 28.

Trincity Nationals ruled the Under-12 category coming away with the title, ahead of Brother Ry Football Academy and Premier League.

In the Under-17 age group, Brother Ry had to settle for second place again as Trendsetter Hawks emerged as the champion team. FC Ginga grabbed third spot.

The tournament has grown since the first edition in 2022. Ten teams participated in 2022, 21 teams in 2023 and 29 teams this year.

The founders of the Sweat Equity Crew are Carol Parris, Damion Marcellin and Gail Serrette-Walcott. A large team is involved in the organising of the competition as the committee members are Charmaine Giroux John, Jacinta Mora George and Valerie Griffith.

The organising committee could not have held such a successful event without the help of all the volunteers and supporters – Dante Cowie; Jordannah Corbin; Eleanor John; Shaquille John; Wallerfield United; We Have Options; Asha Lewis; former TT football captain Clayton Morris; Dareem Ranjitsingh and CG Poseidon Football team; Dr Kwame Olivers; and Gerard Wilson along with the Project Hope Team.

Individual prizes were distributed on the day to all the top footballers.
