No tax on residential homes
THE EDITOR: Every high-rise building in Port of Spain was once located on residential lands. I can still recall the many homes on Frederick Street, and the attic of one from where I watched the electric tram cars.
Today, on Tragarete Road and environs, there are still many colonial-style homes that have been converted into business places. Come September, these business establishments will not be paying property tax. Property tax is reserved only for residential homes that have not been bought out for business.
It is my fervent hope that residential owners of property will be like Vice President Kamala Harris and declare, “I will not be silent.” Say “no to property tax on residential homes.”
