ACTING Attorney General Marvin Gonzales says he does not have an opinion on a call by PrideTT for legislation to protect members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual (LGBTQIA) community from discrimination.

The group made the call at a march in Port of Spain on July 28.

In a response via WhatsApp on July 29, Gonzales said, "I have not studied the matter sufficiently in order to proffer an opinion.

But he added, "Suffice to say that the laws of Trinidad and Tobago and the Constitution provide protection for all citizens regardless of race, colour, gender, status or geographical location.

"That is the beauty of living in a constitutional democracy. As citizens, we are afforded adequate protection by the law and by an independent judiciary that is charged with applying and interpreting the laws."

Gonzales is acting for Attorney General Reginald Armour, SC, who is in Grenada with the Prime Minister at a Caricom heads of government meeting.
