THE Met Office has extended its adverse weather alert – yellow level to 8 pm.

A yellow-level alert means that people should "monitor conditions."

A news release issued at 12.19 pm on July 17 said low-level moisture and convergence will continue to affect Tobago with varying intensity and will spread across varying localities over Trinidad during the next few hours.

It added, "Moderate to heavy showers can lead to street, flash flooding and localised ponding in some areas. Gusty winds and choppy seas can be expected in the vicinity of heavy downpours. There is the continued likelihood of landslides and toppling trees in areas so prone."

It advised people to secure items that may be affected by floodwaters and not to venture into floodwaters.

"Be vigilant to changing weather conditions in your area," it said.

It said the public should monitor official weather updates and reports via metoffice.gov.tt and odpm.gov.tt.

TRINIDAD and Tobago is under an adverse weather alert – yellow level.

The Met Office warned on July 17 to expect adverse weather from 10 am-4 pm in northeastern Tobago and northern Trinidad.

It said, "A band of convergence to the east of Tobago is expected to be enhanced by favourable atmospheric features and generate broad areas of moderate to heavy showers as well as well as occasional thunderstorms."

The Met Office also warned of the possibility of landslides.

"Rainfall over the past few days has resulted in saturated soils in some areas, particularly NE Tobago and northern Trinidad. With the forecast of further rainfall anticipated, there is the likelihood of landslides and toppling trees in the aforementioned and other vulnerable areas," it said.

The Met Office advised people to monitor weather conditions and the condition of their surroundings.

Meanwhile, the Office of Disaster Preparedness has reported flooding in the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation in Lower Barrackpore near Sou Sou Lands, Debedial Road and Scott's Road.
