HUNDREDS of people who were affected by the disruption to the seabridge caused by Hurricane Beryl on July 1 descended on the Scarborough port on July 2, desperate to get on the first sailing to Trinidad.

Also arriving at the port were those who have confirmed tickets for July 2 and people seeking to travel on standby.

All sailings were cancelled on July 1 owing to the hurricane, which passed the island without inflicting severe damage.

There will be three sailings from Tobago to Trinidad on July 2: 12 noon, 4 pm and 5 pm.

By 9 am on July 2, there was a line of cars stretching from the port almost 200 m along Milford Road.

Newsday understands that passengers who have confirmed tickers for July 2 are being given first priority.

One woman seeking to get on the sailing on standby was heard complaining that no standby tickets were being sold.

She told Newsday, "What it is they really doing? People out here in the sun burning. They ain't talking in anybody on the boat unless is (tickets from) yesterday or today. Put people on the boat."
