Grenada music fest delights Port Louis Lawn

The Grenada Caribbean Music Festival put on by Silversands gained rave reviews in the aftermath of its inaugural staging at Port Louis Lawn, St George’s, on June 22.

The event was the first entertainment experience of its kind hosted by the hotel chain. Thousands of patrons were entertained by some of the Caribbean’s finest music stars – including Jeverson, Sabrina Francis, Lika Iké, Patrice Roberts and Mr Killa, a media release said.

Jeverson, who was both a feature performing act as well as the festival lead, said he is grateful for the support his fellow Grenadians continued to show for its promising creative industries, the release said.

The singer, songwriter and businessman, who is known internationally as the first Grenadian to make an appearance on the popular television series, American Idol, spoke glowingly about the production team who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, the release said.

“We’re really proud that our event started on time – our production team did an amazing job ensuring that everything ran smoothly for our patrons to deliver world-class entertainment,” Jeverson said in the release.

Mark Scott, CEO of Joyau Des Caraibes (Silversands), reiterated the hotel’s commitment to contributing meaningfully to the community by supporting home-grown talent.

“Silversands is honoured to have presented this remarkable festival, which highlights the immense talent in Grenada and the Caribbean," he said.

With the event scoring over four million online impressions, Scott looks forward to Silversands continuing to support meaningful events that showcase the best of what Grenada has to offer – including the vendors village, local businesses and event partners that contributed to the success of the event.

On June 22, Sabrina Francis set the tone for the festivities with a fantastic staging of her signature style blend of Afro-Caribbean pop and R&B genres. With songs like Cocoa Tea, Mama Say, Francis’s soulful performance with the treehouse band certainly reminded the audience that her talent is one to watch for global superstardom, the release said.

She also surprised the crowd by delivering a few unreleased songs from her upcoming EP Meet Me Under The Mango Tree, set for release later this year.

Reggae songbird Lila Iké wowed the audience with a powerful hour-long set that delighted her fans and supporters for her first-ever performance in Grenada alongside her One Wurl Band. She took music lovers on a timeless sonic journey through her extensive catalogue – including live renditions of fan favourites I Spy, Where I’m Coming From, and her He Loves Us Both that duets with Grammy-Award winning recording artist, HER.

Promising more visits to Grenada in the future, the Jamaican entertainer called for more unity among Caribbean people, and praised her Grenadian colleagues for welcoming her with open arms to their island.

TT soca star Patrice Roberts sent the crowd in a frenzy with a sizzling set that featured hits Old And Grey, Mind My Business and Anxiety. Backed by the A-Team Band, she gave a high-energy performance that seamlessly led into the blockbuster performance from Grenada’s Mr Killa.

Killa, aka Hollice Mapp, gave an eclectic performance of his power soca hits that kept the audience dancing. He closed the festival with a sample of what is to come for Spicemas, Grenada’s Carnival.
