It's Hookie Weekend in DC

Washington, DC: The vibrancy of the Caribbean will come alive for Hookie Weekend as the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia area gears up to host the five-day festival. The annual celebration promises creatively themed J'Ouvert and mas experiences.

Among the artistes expected to perform during the festival from June 13-17 are Preedy (Akeem Chance), Nadia Batson and Nailah Blackman.

Lion’s Pride J’Ouvert on June 15 will see early-morning revelry at the Rosecroft Raceway from 7 am. This year the drinks-inclusive event is themed Soca Wars, a media release said.

Viewed by many Hookie Weekend faithful as the pinnacle of the festival, Riddim & Road on June 16 at the Rosecroft Raceway from 2 pm will once again showcase costume creativity.

The DJ driven, drinks-inclusive affair’s theme is Rise of the Phoenix and like the mythical golden bird associated with renewal and regeneration, masqueraders are urged to remix their costumes from past carnivals or purchase one of the original, exclusive Riddim & Road costumes, the release said.

Hookie Weekend which also includes the events Release Therapy, Hookie DC Pool Party, Shine DC and Oasis will deliver infectious rhythms, dazzling costumes and bring the freedom and joyous essence of the islands to the DMV, the release said.
