Trinidad and Tobago cyclist Nicholas Paul advanced to Sunday’s quarter-finals of the men’s individual sprint event at the 2023 International Cycling Union Track Cycling Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

On Saturday, Paul impressed throughout the rounds finishing third in the qualification round in 9.529 seconds. Harrie Lavreysen of The Netherlands ended the qualification stage with the fastest time of 9.374 and Polish cyclist Mateusz Rudyk copped second spot in 9.527.

TT cyclist Kwesi Browne also competed in the qualifiers but finished 34th out of the 35 riders and did not advance. Only the top 28 cyclists progressed past the qualification phase.

Paul earned a second-round (1/16 finals) bye because he finished in the top four of the qualifiers. In the third round (1/8 finals), Paul was too fast for Jeffrey Hoogland of The Netherlands winning heat three.

Paul will now compete in the quarter-finals aiming for a place in the semi-finals on Monday. The finals will also be held on Monday.
