The Inventions and Creativity Through The Arts (ICTA) Retreat Centre recently completed its latest Funeriffic programme focused on art therapy with a mindful approach for people with autism and developmental disabilities.

A media release said the NGO was founded in 2019 with a mission to make a difference in the lives of seniors, oncology patients, people with autism and Down syndrome, and youth for sustainability through the power of art. Programmes are designed to be inclusive and sustainable, providing a safe and welcoming space for all.

The team has developed various scientifically-proven methods that aid and improve the conditions of those with these disabilities, such as the use of manipulatives and sensory paths to improve fine motor skills and sensory processing. ICTA believes that art is a powerful tool that can help individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in several ways, specifically with socialisation, improving communication, and promoting self-esteem and confidence.

ICTA collaborates with other NGOs to ensure that accessibility of aid for youth and adults on the spectrum is being taken more seriously in TT. “Our partnership with the recently developed Hospital in Point Fortin is proof of this commitment, and we are proud to rally behind this cause and assist in any way we can,” the release said.
