What are we celebrating?

THE EDITOR: The marish and the parish are celebrating the fact that the United Nations General Assembly has declared August 11 as World Steelpan Day.

"Good-o," as my deceased neighbour used to say.

Approximately 93 years after its invention, has the steelpan been legally proclaimed as the national instrument of TT?

A politician saying so, in 1992, does not make it so.

If the answer is no, what are we celebrating?
