House of Representatives passes 2022/2023 budget
THE House of Representatives passed the 2022/2023 budget. The budget was passed by a vote of 21 to 19, when the Standing Finance Committee of the House completed its deliberations on Tuesday.
All opposition MPs present in the parliament chamber, voted no after they called for a division when the committee was asked to vote on the budget.
The Senate begins its debate on the budget from 10 am on Wednesday. Under its standing orders, the Senate can neither vote on money bills (such as the budget) or deliberate on them at committee stage.
By law, the House and Senate are required to approve the budget before October 31, the end of the current fiscal year.
