Brother identifies Venezuelan's body found in Toco

The body of a man found in Toco last Monday has been identified as that of Alvaro Dario Cova Carrion, a 33-year-old Venezuelan.

Relatives went to the Forensic Science Centre, St James on Friday.

Wilmer Call, his brother, told Newsday Cova Carrion was last seen on Saturday near his home in Valencia.

Call was with a cousin and two friends. The director of La Casita of the Hispanic Cultural Centre of Arima, Andreina Briceno, was also there to help them.

Call said: “A friend saw him on Saturday afternoon. That same day my brother spoke on the phone with several relatives in Venezuela.

"On Monday I learned of a body found on a beach in Toco, but I never thought it was my brother.”

Cova Carrion was from Tucupita, Venezuela and had lived in TT for three years.

“My brother had two boys and a girl,” Call said. The name of his daughter, Leonora Isabel, was tattooed on his back.

That was what led Wilner Call to identify him.

“Today when I saw his body I knew immediately that it was my brother, ” said Call.

The autopsy will be done on Monday.

Police from the Region II Homicide Investigations Bureau are continuing investigations.

Cova Carrion lived with two Trinidadian men with whom he worked in a quarry in Valencia and on a farm in Toco.

His body was found byfishermen floating off the coast of Toco.
