Police suspect the search for 34-year-old Annalisa Gokool may have ended on Monday morning after the body of a woman believed to be her was found in a shallow grave off Warden Road, Sangre Chiquito.

Gokool was last seen on June 6 and was reported missing at the Caroni police station on June 9.

Investigators said two men were held in relation to Gokool's disappearance and reportedly told police where her body was dumped.

Police went to the scene last Friday and continued their search with assistance from an excavator and backhoe.

Newsday understands the suspects were also brought to the scene as they assisted police with the inquiries.

The body was found by police at around 10.30 am 300 feet away from the road.

Police believe the body is that of Gokool as it had the same clothing she wore and there were tattoos with the names of family members on the body's upper arm.

Gokool's father Daveanand Gokool, 52 and brother Jeremy Gokool, were shot dead in St Helena in August 2014.

Gokool was originally from Vega de Oropouche but police said she may have had a home in St Helena.

Investigators suspect she was killed within the last two weeks as her body was showing signs of bloating but was not in an advanced decomposition.

Police believe Gokool may have been lured to the area where she was shot dead and buried.

Newsday visited the scene just as police and crime scene investigators were leaving.

One of the excavators used in the search was left behind.

The grave which was about four feet deep was located near the road in a plot of land used for agriculture, as several banana and pumpkin crops were visible nearby.

The surrounding areas were heavily forested and did not have any houses or sheds.

An autopsy will be conducted at the Forensic Science Centre, St James on Friday.
