FIVE days after a daring robbery next to a police station, police on Tuesday killed one of the suspects.

A police officer was shot in the leg during a reported shootout with the suspect.

Police  said Nathan Paul, a 22-year-old suspect in the crime, died on Tuesday morning during an alleged shootout with them around 9 am.

They alleged that Paul, of Toncabean Trace, Maraval, and others  were dressed in police tactical uniforms, when they robbed a KFC outlet at the NP gas station compound last Thursday night.

The gas station is next to the Maraval Police Station.

Police said they were on patrol in  Toncabean Trace searching for the suspects in the robbery when they were reportedly shot at. They shot back and Paul was struck. An officer identified  as PC Frith was shot in the leg.

Police said Paul was charged in 2020 with a series of gun-related offences including attempted murder and was also a suspect in a murder.
