Nabeel Mohammed, Akiel Duke advance to Classified tennis semis
NABEEL Mohammed and Akiel Duke, the top seeds in the men's A division singles, advanced to the semifinals of the East Clubs Classified Tennis tournament at Trinidad Country Club in Maraval, on Friday.
Mohammed, the top seed in the division, defeated eighth-seeded player Kino Francis 6-1, 6-2 to book a place in the final four. Second-seeded Duke was equally impressive as he got past seventh-seed Ronald Robinson 6-1, 6-1. In the other quarter-final matches, unseeded Seve Day outlasted third-seed Keshan Moonasar 6-3, 6-4 and fifth-seed Ethan Wong prevailed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Che Sanchez.
In the men's B division quarter-finals, fourth-seed Clint Singh was a convincing winner over Mukesh Ramsingh 4-1, 4-1 and the unseeded Kale Dale Costa upset top ranked Beckham Sylvester 4-2, 4-1.
Matches were still being played up to press time on Friday. The touurnament continues on Saturday from 9 am weather permitting. TT is under a yellow-level adverse weather alert.
