Not learning from errors
THE EDITOR: It is such a shame that TT will be known to the outside world as a country that cannot pay its bills on time.
The horribly overstaffed Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), due to bad management, is owing billions of dollars.
Petrotrin drained government resources and it too was overstaffed, having replaced Texaco many years previously.
No prize money has been paid by the Port of Spain Corporation to the winners of its Downtown Carnival 2020 competitions.
When I lived in Barbados, I asked my neighbour why were so many workers on a particular job when only two were working? He said the government was keeping them “off the roads.”
Is it the same in TT with these companies running at a financial loss each year but are overstaffed because our people have to be kept employed, even if there is no job for them?
Taxpayers’ money is not being used efficiently. Applications and documents are not being sent in on time – even to overseas institutions.
TT became independent in 1962, so how long does it take state-owned companies to make a profit?
We are not learning from our mistakes?
