Trainee at opposition MP's office robbed at gunpoint in PH car

A female trainee at the constituency office of an opposition MP has been robbed at gunpoint in a private-hire (PH) car on Saturday at Endeavour, Chaguanas.
A release on Sunday from Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh said it was with deep sorrow he had to start the New Year by “relaying the deeply disturbing and provoking news” of the robbery.
He said the young woman, who is part of the on-the-job training programme, was travelling in the PH car to Price Plaza at Endeavour where the gunman posing as a passenger in the car robbed her.
The opposition MP said the gunman ordered the woman and another female passenger to hand over their valuables in Chaguanas.
"We are grateful that, in her case, only material possessions were lost," Indarsingh said.
"Countless women have fallen victim to attacks from PH drivers, losing their lives as this Government fails continuously to address the crime situation in the country."
He said the deaths of young women and the attacks against passengers of PH cars have still have not driven the Government to deal with crime frontally.
"It is regrettable that we must forecast that in this new year, the more things change, the more they remain the same under this administration.
"In our small operation, our team members are close to each other, and we take this time to express a sigh of relief that the outcome of this situation was not graver."
He called on the Prime Minister and the National Security Minister to stop failing the nation.
