[Updated] Pensioner bludgeoned to death with brick, two others shot dead
Three men were murdered in separate incidents in Arima, Chaguanas and Freeport on Saturday.
In one instance, pensioner Ramdeo Ramkissoon may have fought with his killers at his Endeavour home before he was bludgeoned to death with a concrete brick.
Ramkissoon's body was found outside his home after what police said was a home invasion. His head was bashed in, police said.
The weapon used by his killer, a concrete brick, was found near his body.
Police said the killer who escaped on a bicycle was also wounded during the struggle as they also found a trail of blood a few houses from Ramkissoon’s home. Residents also spotted the killer riding away from the scene of the crime.
According to a police report, the incident occurred at about 2 am on Saturday.
Police said that Ramkissoon, 75, who lived alone may have caught the man stealing when he was attacked and killed.
Ramkissoon’s daughter, Lisa Ramkissoon, who lives next door, said she heard dogs barking around 2 am and looked out the window but did not see anything.
Around 8 am, her husband Richard Jaipersad went to drop off breakfast for Ramkissoon and found his body outside the house.
Lisa said her father was an honest man who worked hard all his life and had retired after working as a postman.
“I can’t believe it, this is so unfair. My father did not deserve to die like this. He worked so hard in his younger years and saved up his money to build his house. He was strong and respected by everyone in the village.”
Lisa said her father was also kind-hearted and was willing to help anyone in need.
“If you wanted something you could have asked him. But instead, you choose to steal from my father and then kill him. What kind of human being are you? You hear of all these gruesome murders taking place across the country but you never think it will hit home. Now I have lost my father, an innocent man was taken away from me."
In a separate incident, police said they responded to a report of a body of a man being found at the corner of Uquire and Arena Road in Freeport.
The man was later identified as Ansar Ahamad, 32, of Freeport.
Ahamad, who lived alone, was shot to his head and back. His uncle Jamal Ahamad said residents last saw his nephew around 8 pm.
He said his nephew was a drug addict who would leave his home any hour of the night to get drugs.
“We had tried so hard with him, so sent him to rehab but he kept following the wrong company. It is really sad to see what happened. But when you are in the life of drugs it is no telling what can happen.”
Ahamad would have celebrated his 33rd birthday on December 19.
In the eastern district of Arima, police said O'Brian Gomez, of Stanley Street, Mt Zion Road, was at home, at about 7 am, when some men in a vehicle called out to him. As he spoke to them, another vehicle drove past and the occupants began shooting, killing Gomez. Police gave no further details.
