Annisette: Workers support Angostura despite CEO resignation
THE departure of Angostura’s CEO Peter Sandstrom will not impact the production of the company, thanks to the dedicated workers, Michael Annisette, general secretary of the National Trade Union Centre (NATUC) said on Friday.
Annisette said while Angostura may have some leadership turbulence, as Sandstrom is the last of three CEOs in the past four years, employees remain loyal to the company.
“In my view, the workers are committed and have their interest and heart at Angostura. They know the work been better than, if I can say it, some managers given their collective years there.”
Annisette said the workers will ensure that the company continues to make a profit no matter who the CEO is, as they possess the drive to do so.
Sandstrom resigned from Angostura, last week, citing unforeseen family matters, which require his "immediate and sustained presence in the United Kingdom."
Ian Forbes, Angostura's chief operating officer, will act as CEO of Angostura Holdings Ltd from September 30, when Sandstrom's resignation takes effect, in addition to his substantive duties.
Sandstrom’s appointment as Angostura CEO came after the resignation of former CEO Genevieve Jodhan after two separate financial audits regarding suspected breaches of procurement policies of the company.
Prior to that Peter Wong stepped down after he was sent on administrative leave. Under his tenure Angostura bought rum in bulk and repackaged it for export. Terrence Bharath became the second chairman in the past two years at after his predecessor Dr Rolph Balgobin resigned in 2018 amidst sexual harassment allegations.
