Freetown Collective hosts#FindTheConnection on FB
AMONG the slew of local entertainers taking to the digital space to meet their audiences is Freetown Collective with its Freetown Thursday Concerts. This virtual concert series, currently presented via Facebook Live, has as its primary aim to help keep people connected through music during the ongoing covid19 quarantine period.
Titled #FindTheConnection, the series, originally hosted on Instagram Live when it took off in mid-April, has featured a range of guest acts such as vocalists and musicians. Among them are Marge Blackman and Richard “Solman” Solis; top performance poets Alexandra Stewart, Derron Sandy, Arielle John and Idrees Saleem; as well as local dancehall artist Rheon Elbourne, said a media release.
Lead vocalist and founding member of the six-piece band Muhammad Muwakil emphasised that the weekly concert series “was founded on the belief that social distancing ought not to equate to human isolation. In the midst of the current challenges, social distancing and human connection can and must coexist," he said in the release.
In partnership with bmobile, the hour-long production will continue through September 2020 as a platform for special guest performances by local and regional artists as well as performances by the host band Freetown Collective.
“We’re inviting our fans, followers and music-lovers everywhere to #FindTheConnection so that, together, we can #FightThecovid with a healthy dose of uplifting musical vibrations from that special place in our hearts,” said Muwakil.
The concerts will be livestreamed on Facebook (@wearefreetown) at 6 pm.
