CHAGUANAS East MP Fazal Karim has opened his office on Monroe Road, Cunupia for those doing online studies during the covid19 period.

On Thursday Karim said he spoke to the police about letting students use his office while maintaining physical distancing.

“The police said there should not be more than five students at a time in the office area, and we have since asked students to call and make an appointment so as to keep within the law of the country, without crowding the office space,” he said.

He also put sanitisation procedures in place.

Karim, a UNC MP, is a former minister of tertiary education.

He said he is aware many families in his constituency do not own computers or have internet access.

“I want to make it possible for those who into exams to continue their schooling online during this time.”

During the past two months that the country is observing the stay-at-home measures because of covid19, he said, education has been put on hold and this is why he wants to reach those who are continuing their studies online.

“There are many calls from those in education in the country for students to continue studies online but my question is, how can a child do online studies without a computer or internet?"

Karim urged constituents to call 671-6953 and make an appointment, after which the staff at the office will facilitate students during working hours.

Students, Karim said, will be allowed two-hour-long sessions each. He also asked for them to wear masks and wash their hands before and after entering the office.

He said computers will be sanitised at the end of each appointment and before the start of the daily sessions.
