Three in court for sexual offences

Three men appeared before magistrates in Port of Spain, San Fernando and Scarborough on Monday for three separate cases of sexual offences against minors.

In the first instance, a 16-year-old girl who worked as a packer with a supermarket reported to police that she was sexually assaulted by the store's owner.

WPC Mc Gregor of the South Western Child Protection Unit (CPU) began an investigation into the report and arrested a 49-year-old man. He was charged with one count of sexual touching of a child, one count of employment of a child under the age of 16 years not being a family member, and one count of failing to open and maintain a register of employment of any child.

In the second incident, a 14-year-old girl reported to officers of the Port of Spain CPU that she was sexually abused over a period of seven years, with instances in both Trinidad and Tobago.

WPC Mahabir and Besson Street police investigated the matter and arrested a 35-year-old man. He was charged with four counts of sexual penetration of a child, one count of indecent assault, one count of sexual touching of a child.

In the third case, a 15-year-old girl reported to police that she was sexually assaulted on January 18.

WPC Scotland-Celestine began an investigation which led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man. He was charged with one count of sexual penetration.

The alleged victims received support from the Children's Authority.
