Tourism, Culture and Transportation Secretary Nadine Stewart-Phillips said the 2020 Tobago Heritage Festival is currently in limbo owing to the covid19 pandemic. The Tobago Jazz Experience and Easter celebrations have already been cancelled in keeping with the restrictions set by the Government to curb the spread of the virus.

At a virtual media briefing on Friday, Stewart-Phillips said the division is playing it by ear but is committed to hosting the festival, scheduled for July, in some format. She said hosting some aspects of the festival virtually will be explored to maintain social distancing. She said the division recently cancelled the Tobago leg of the National Dragon Boat Festival.

The Tobago Heritage Festival is a pillar on the local cultural calendar with traditional weddings, village theatre productions, calypso competitions, goat racing, crab racing and queen shows highlighting the rich history of the island.
