$1m to upgrade Black Rock regional complex
The Black Rock Multi-Purpose Regional Complex has been recommissioned by THA Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles and Secretary of Community Development, Enterprise Development and Labour, Marslyn Melville-Jack.
Also at the short recommissioning ceremony, which took place last Friday, was president of the Black Rock Village Council Larry Paul.
Speaking with Newsday, Melville-Jack said she was delighted to be a part of the recommissioning.
“The foundation stone for this facility was laid by then chairman of the Tobago House of Assembly, Mr Lennox Denoon, and Mrs Beverly Ramsey- Moore, resident of Black Rock. I am therefore gratified that the upgrading of this facility was commissioned and completed under the stewardship of a son of the soil, honourable Kelvin V Charles in his capacity as Chief Secretary of the THA and area representative for Black Rock and environs,” she said.
The division’s construction engineer, Neil Alleyne, said the project was completed in four and a half months at a cost of roughly $1 million.
“The works started in September and was carried out by Horace Nelson Equipment Rentals.
“The project was done on time...We did a full electrical upgrade of the facility. The main hall was not airconditioned before, so we airconditioned the full main hall. We also tiled the main hall and the kitchen area. There are two training kitchens there. We refurbished the kitchens, put in stainless steel sinks to make them closer to CVQ standards for training in culinary arts,” he said.
During the recommissioning, the team wore facemasks and practised social distancing, in keeping with WHO guidelines to deal with covid19.
