CHILDREN were treated to live storytelling and pizza when the Trinre Foundation hosted its Joy of Reading event at the company’s Edward Street office in Port of Spain.

Launched in 2011, the Joy of Reading is a corporate social responsibility initiative of the foundation and was conceptualised to engender a love for reading among children, a media release said.

Storyteller Rhesa Samuel shares in the joy of reading.

Marketing officer at Trinre Melisse Massy said, “It’s so easy for kids to pick up a phone or an iPad and play a game now, that the passion for reading is being lost. The joy of getting lost in a story can provide us and especially children, with a world of imagination.”

Awards were distributed to children who stood out when they participated in the various reading activities. Mario’s Pizzeria sponsored refreshments and its mascot Mr Slice was on hand to greet the children at the December 8 activities.

The Joy of Reading initiative takes place three times a year and usually targets underprivileged children from communities where Trinre operates.
