Felony murder leads to jail

JADA LOUTOO

TWO men will serve three years and two months in prison after they pleaded guilty to felony murder. Noel Gilbert and Christ Daryl Phillip were before Justice Gillian Lucky in the Port of Spain Fifth Criminal Court where they were sentenced.

After they received discounts for guilty-pleas plus the 16 years spent in prison was deducted, both men were left to serve three years and two months’ hard labour.

According to the agreed facts, on January 18, 2002, the two went to the home of Christopher Rollock at Cane Farm, Arouca, where they tied him up in his bedroom. Gilbert took Rollock’s bank card and went to the bank to withdraw money while he left their victim with Phillip at the house.

Gilbert was unable to get any money and went back to the house and told Rollock there was no money in his account. Rollock was shot in the jaw and died at the scene. Both men left Rollock’s house, taking with them a laptop. The gun they used was stolen from a security guard at the National Museum, two days before.

Gilbert, when arrested by police, said he went by Rollock for money and became frustrated when he did not get any. Phillip was arrested in Tobago in March, and he told police when they went by Rollock, they got no money and a man he identified as Noel, took out a gun and shot the man in the face.

Attorneys Lyndon Leu and Davon Williams represented Gilbert while Ravi Rajah represented Phillip. Trevor Jones represented the State.
