Vendors, keepstreet clean

THE EDITOR: As the Charlotte Street vendors celebrate their “victory” to return to their street activities, there is one key issue that must be addressed.

For the past month, the Port of Spain City Corporation has worked assiduously to clean Charlotte Street.

Last week I was saddened to see that the one or two fruit and vegetable vendors who were out selling had returned the street to its nasty state. They had thrown their rubbish into the road.

I hope the mayor and the City Police will take a more proactive role to ensure that the vendors keep Charlotte Street clean. Any vendor who refuses to place their rubbish in a proper container should be banned from selling.

Street vending has always been an integral part of the development of any society. However, it can only work when all parties actively try to maintain their environment.
