No TT nationals affected
FOREIGN and Caricom Affairs Minister Dennis Moses yesterday said no TT nationals were killed or injured when a van ploughed into a crowded sidewalk in Toronto.
Speaking with reporters while the Senate was in session, Moses said, “As of now, no reports of such.”
Moses said two staff members at this country’s consulate in Toronto live in the area where the incident happened, but were not affected because the authorities blocked off the intersection.
He said the incident happened about four miles away from the consulate, but ended close by. All staff at the consulate are safe.
He promised to provide any further information as it becomes available.
Moses did not describe the attack as a terrorist act.
The 25-year-old suspect who drove the van was hel on ten counts of murder and 13 counts of attempted murder. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dismissed the possibility of terrorism, saying authorities saw no national-security element in the case.
