SENIOR Counsel Douglas Mendes returned as president of the Law Association following the law body’s annual general elections last Friday. He was unopposed as the only other contender pulled out of the race earlier this month.

Also returning unopposed were Rajiv Persad as Vice President and Theresa Hadad as treasurer.

Elected as Senior Ordinary members were Elton Prescott, SC, Darrell Allahar, Elena Araujo, Ronnie Bissessar, Frederick Gilkes, Jason Nathu, Reeyah Chattergoon, Dinesh Rambally, Lynette Seebaran-Suite and Richard Sirjoo. The Junior Ordinary members elected were Shankar Bidaisee, Trevor Clarke, Kimberleigh Peterson, Marissa Ramsoondar and Elena De Silva. Earlier this month Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj, SC, withdrew his candidacy for the post of president.

He said existing professional commitments both locally and overseas prevented him from devoting the time required to lead the association.

One of the main features of the election was the provision of facilities for voting in San Fernando and Tobago, as was done in the past.
