No patients affected by riots
CLINT CHAN TACK
HEALTH Minister Terrence Deyalsingh yesterday said no patient’s medical treatment was compromised by the closure of four health centres in East Port of Spain, as a result of riots there on Monday.
Speaking in the Senate, Deyalsingh said, “Clinic appointments are never for acute or life threatening cases.” He added that all these cases are facilitated at secondary or tertiary health facilities such as the Port of Spain General Hospital.
Deyalsingh said an anti-natal clinic was supposed to take place at the Upper Laventille health centre on Monday. He said all those patients have been rescheduled to next Monday. “These are non acute, non life threatening cases.” Deyalsingh said walk in clinics were held on Monday at the Success Laventille and George Street health centres. In the case of Success Laventille, Deyalsingh said 72 people were seen, 22 dressings were done and the centre was closed at noon.
