The Movement for Social Justice (MSJ) will host its special congress today at University Inn and Conference Centre, St Augustine.

MSJ political leader David Abdulah explained the party was constitutionally bound to host a congress annually, but this year’s was “special” because the agenda was amended.

Starting at 9 am, there will be a special forum of the youth for social justice where all people, ages 16 to 35, were invited to express their views about what was happening in the country, problems in their communities, and other pertinent issues. “It allows for as much democratic participation as possible because if we have a lot of reports then the time for people to speak to the reports becomes fairly short.”

The feature address will be delivered by head of International Relations of the Communist Party of Cuba, Comandante Ramon Balaguer, one of the last surviving comandantes who fought alongside Fidel Castro in the Cuban Revolution.

The MSJ’s internal elections were supposed to take place this morning but at the close of nominations, all 12 positions, including political leader, were contested unopposed.
