Make them pay for going too far
THE EDITOR: Although I strongly object to the imposition of property tax on the already heavily-burdened middle and lower classes, we have no option but to comply with the dictates of the Government.
I would like to suggest to the Minister of Finance, however, that the apparatus to evaluate and collect the tax be used as a fiscal tool. It could provide for imposition of severe penalties and charges for infractions of the rules of Town and Country and other regulatory agencies.
In cases where buildings and developers extend properties beyond the regulated frontage, for example, a percentage of the accessed property value should be surcharged until corrections are made. Of course the necessary amendments to various statutes will need to be made.
