Mayaro father dies in crash

Birthday preparations turned into funeral preparations for a Mayaro family after a father of two died after a vehicular accident on Thursday evening. Dead is Jerome Dhanraj of Kernaham Trace, Mayaro. Dhanraj would have been 30 years old yesterday.

According to a police report, at about 3pm on Thursday, the father of two was driving his vehicle along the Naparima/Mayaro Road in the vicinity of Mafeking Village when a trailer truck heading in the opposite direction collided with his car. Dhanraj’s vehicle landed in a bushy area off the roadway and he was rushed to the Sangre Grande District Hospital.

He died while undergoing emergency surgery. The driver of the truck survived the crash and was treated for minor injuries. An autopsy on Dhanraj’s body was expected to be performed today. Mayaro police officers are investigating.
