Robbery foiled, bandit dead, another injured
Two gunmen lurking outside a bar in Malabar, were confronted by police and following a shoot-out, one was killed and the other arrested during the early morning hours yesterday.
Police said that at about 12.40 am, officers on mobile patrol spotted the two outside Newside Recreation Club, whose owner lives at the back of the businessplace.
When the officers challenged the men, they were fired upon by the suspects who ran to the back of the building. Officers gave chase, returned fire and in the process shot and killed one of the men, a 25-year-old whose identity, up to press time, was not known but who is believed to have hailed from Tumpuna Road.
The other man, who is 27 and from Malabar, was detained and officers later seized a bolt-cutter and other house-breaking implements.
The suspects’ guns were not recovered. Investigations are continuing.
