Whisper Light goes for President’s Cup

Connections of President’s Cup winner Whisper Light and Peace N Glory paid hefty penalty fees for their charges to race in this year’s President’s Cup.

Owners Errol Stables and Rhanie Mohammed paid $1,800 each for the two horses to take their chance in the Grade 2 event to be run off over 1800 metres on the turf course on Independence Day, August 31. Whisper Light a 7/1 shot, scored a surprise victory in the 1900 metres President’s, beating overwhelming 4/5 favourite Conquest Bespoke by 1 1/.2 lengths.

And the Harriram “Pepsi” Gobin-trained five-year-old will be seeking to reverse the placings.

When second nomination fees were collected on Tuesday, nine horses were set to contest the race. The trio of Howsweetitis, Root Of Jesse and Transpire were taken out of those for which first nomination fees were paid.

A final nomination fee of $900 becomes due and payable on the date of entry for the race.
