REPORTS of strong winds blowing off roofs have come from Grenada as the island faces Hurricane Beryl.

National Bus Association public relations officer Carl Nedd told Newsday the small islands of Caricou and Petit Martinique got the worst of the damage. The building that houses the Central Police Station, the Grenadian police traffic department and the police station itself lost its roof to the high winds.

Nedd added that places on the eastern side of Grenada also experienced storm surges because of low-lying areas that are close to the sea.

The island is under a seven-day state of emergency and no one is allowed outside except essential workers.

More on this as it becomes available.
